Learnoir (“Learnoir”, “we”, “us”) provides curriculum-aligned video lessons for school students. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the rights you have over it. It applies to our website, our waitlist and the Learnoir service.

Because many of the people who benefit from Learnoir are children, we work to a simple principle: collect as little as possible, keep it no longer than necessary, and keep parents in control.

1. Who is responsible for your data

Learnoir is the data controller for the information described in this policy. For any privacy question, correction or complaint, contact us at hello@learnoir.com and we will respond within 30 days.

2. What we collect

Waitlist information. If you join our waitlist we collect your name, email address and the date you joined. We use this only to tell you when Learnoir opens and to share launch information.

Account information. When the service launches and you create an account, we collect the parent or guardian’s name and email address, and for the learner a display name, year or grade level, and chosen interest track.

Learning activity. Lessons watched, progress through topics, quiz answers and results. This is what makes weekly progress reports possible.

Payment records. Subscription plan, amount, currency, payment status and renewal dates. We never see or store your full card details — card data is collected and processed directly by our payment providers.

Messages you send us. If you contact us, we keep your message and contact details so we can reply and follow up.

Technical information. Standard server and device information such as IP address, browser type, approximate country, pages viewed and referring page. We use this to keep the service secure, diagnose faults and understand which content is useful.

We do not collect government identification numbers, precise location, biometric data, or special-category data about health, religion, ethnicity or political views.

3. Children’s privacy

Learnoir is designed for school-age learners but is bought and managed by a parent, guardian, school or other responsible adult. Accounts must be created by an adult aged 18 or over, who is responsible for the learner profiles on that account.

We do not knowingly allow a child to create an account directly, and we do not ask children for more information than is needed to deliver and track their lessons. We do not serve behavioural advertising to children, we do not sell children’s data, and we do not build advertising profiles from a child’s learning activity.

A parent or guardian may at any time review the information held about a learner on their account, correct it, export it or ask us to delete it, by emailing hello@learnoir.com from the account email address. If we learn that we have collected information from a child without the involvement of a responsible adult, we will delete it promptly.

4. Why we use your data, and our legal basis

To provide the service — stream lessons, save progress, produce parent reports, take payment. Legal basis: performance of our contract with you.

To keep the service working and secure — fault diagnosis, fraud and abuse prevention, service improvement. Legal basis: our legitimate interests in running a safe, reliable product.

To communicate with you — service messages, replies to your enquiries, waitlist and launch updates. Legal basis: your consent for marketing messages, and legitimate interests for essential service messages.

To meet legal and accounting obligations — tax, financial records, and responding to lawful requests. Legal basis: compliance with a legal obligation.

You may withdraw consent for marketing at any time, without affecting your access to the service.

5. Who we share data with

We do not sell personal data, and we never have. We share data only with service providers who help us operate, and only to the extent they need it:

Hosting, database and infrastructure providers who store data securely on our behalf
Payment processors who take and verify payments
Email providers who deliver the messages and reports you have asked for
Analytics providers who help us understand aggregate usage of the site

These providers act on our instructions under contract and may not use your data for their own purposes. We may also disclose data where we are legally required to, or to protect the rights and safety of our users. If Learnoir is ever involved in a merger or acquisition, data may transfer to the successor entity, and this policy will continue to apply until replaced by an equivalent one.

6. International transfers

Learnoir operates from Nigeria and serves learners worldwide, so your data may be stored or processed in countries other than your own. Where data leaves your region, we rely on providers offering appropriate safeguards — such as standard contractual clauses or equivalent protections — so that your data keeps the protection it has at home.

7. How long we keep it

We keep account and learning data for as long as your account is active. If you close your account, we delete or anonymise personal data within 90 days, except records we must keep longer for tax, accounting or legal reasons. Waitlist entries are kept until you ask to be removed, or until 24 months after launch, whichever comes first. Support messages are kept for up to 24 months.

8. How we protect it

Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS) and stored on access-controlled infrastructure with database-level security rules, so records can only be read by those entitled to read them. Access by our team is limited to staff who need it to do their job. No system is perfectly secure, but if a breach ever affects your personal data we will notify you and the relevant regulator as required by law.

9. Your rights

Wherever you live, you may ask us to:

Access the personal data we hold about you or your child
Correct anything inaccurate or incomplete
Delete your data where we have no continuing need for it
Export your data in a portable format
Restrict or object to certain processing
Withdraw consent for marketing communications at any time

Email hello@learnoir.com to exercise any of these rights. We will not charge you or reduce your service for making a request. If you are in Nigeria you may also complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission; if you are in the EU or UK, to your national data protection authority.

10. Cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies and local storage that are strictly necessary to run the site — keeping you signed in, remembering your preferences and keeping sessions secure. We may also use privacy-respecting analytics to count visits and understand which pages are useful. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though some parts of the service may stop working correctly if you do.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the service grows. If we make a material change we will update the date at the top of this page and, where the change significantly affects you, tell you by email before it takes effect.
